Supercar rental insurance: included, credit card, or personal. What actually covers you

Insurance is probably the most poorly explained topic in high-end rentals. Many clients think their personal auto policy or their Amex Platinum automatically covers them on an R8. Reality is more nuanced. Here's what matters.
The agency's insurance: the main coverage
At Montreal Exotic Rentals, every rental includes a commercial insurance policy covering liability up to $2,000,000 and damage to the rented vehicle. This is the main coverage. It applies automatically, no action required from you, regardless of your country of origin.
Your personal auto insurance
Your Quebec or foreign auto insurance generally doesn't extend to a rented vehicle over $65,000. Check your policy, but in the vast majority of cases, your personal insurance doesn't cover supercar rentals. Don't rely on it.
Premium credit cards

Amex Platinum, Visa Infinite Privilege, Mastercard World Elite often offer Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) coverage on rentals. But almost all explicitly exclude luxury vehicles (above a certain value), sport vehicles, and exotic models (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche 911, Audi R8, etc.). Read your card's exclusion clause before relying on it.
The deductible
Our commercial coverage includes a deductible in case of a claim. Exact details are provided in the contract. Contact concierge if you have questions before booking.
What's never covered
Driving under the influence, unauthorized track use, undeclared driver, intentional damage, tickets (speeding, parking), and tire/wheel damage from curbs/potholes (partially covered depending on the case). These exclusions are industry standard.
Bottom line
Liability and damage coverage is included ($50/booking, or $50 off with valid personal exotic-car insurance). Don't blindly rely on your card or personal auto policy for supercars. Ask at booking if a specific use case concerns you.
